Frequently asked questions

  • Does the BioCapsule® generate unpleasant odours or noise?

The BioCapsule® is hermetically sealed to contain and filter potential odour nuisances. The BioCapsule® has no components that generate auditory nuisance, and as bio-waste is collected by soft-transport logistic no noise is generated.

  • How much and what types of waste do you process?

The BioCapsule® treats 300 to 600 tonnes of waste a year, equivalent to a local authority with at least 7,000 inhabitants, a supermarket or a central kitchen. All organic waste is accepted by the BioCapsule, including meat and fish, cellulose packaging (cardboard, kraft, napkins, etc.) and non-woody green waste (leaves, grass cuttings, etc.).

  • How are undesirable substances managed within BioCapsule®?

The BioCapsule® accepts food waste and removes undesirable parts such as plasticusing an innovative semi-automated system developed by Arkeale.

  • How are the potential risks of BioCapsule® prevented?

The BioCapsule® presents fewer risks than a petrol station. The biogas is produced at low pressure and stored in limited quantities. The entire system is certified, tested and inspected at the factory. What's more, the BioCapsule incorporates an automated system that can be remotely monitored 24 hours a day by an authorised technician.

  • What is the environmental impact of a BioCapsule®?

The BioCapsule® incorporates hermetically sealed, double-walled tanks and storage areas fitted with sensors to ensure that the BioCapsule® remains watertight throughout its lifetime. What's more, the BioCapsule®'s small footprint (80m²) means it has a limited impact on biodiversity.
Thanks to its low-tech design, the BioCapsule produces a limited quantity of greenhouse gases and consumes very little energy and water.

  • What is a digestate? Is the one produced by the BioCapsule® of high quality?

Digestate is the organic matter produced by the BioCapsule recovery process. Its treatment guarantees the production of a high-quality liquid and solid fertiliser that can be used in both organic and conventional farming.

  • How can citizens get involved in the running of the BioCapsule®?

Citizens can be involved from the outset of the project through public consultation. Local residents could bring their bio-waste to a drop-off point connected to the BioCapsule®, thereby raising awareness of the importance of sorting bio-waste and recovering energy from it.

  • What regulations apply to the BioCapsule®?

The installation and operation of BioCapsule® are both governed by local town planning schemes and national regulations.

  • How long does it take for the BioCapsule® to be profitable?

The BioCapsule ® has a return on investment time of 3 years or more, depending on the quantity and quality of bio-waste treated. A feasibility study will enable us to accurately determine its profitability for a minimum lifespan of 20 years.
