The first BioCapsule® is officially launched

A milestone for local energy autonomy

On 19 February 2026, Arkeale officially launched its very first BioCapsule® in Colmar. 

This innovative micro-anaerobic digestion station, designed to produce renewable energy from bio-waste, has been installed on an organic market garden. The inauguration ceremony marks a major milestone in Arkeale’s development and the deployment of anaerobic digestion solutions tailored to smaller-scale actors, whether they are local authorities, industrial players, or any organization looking to meet its own energy needs. 

The inauguration ceremony: the result of five years of research 

The event brought together over a hundred guests, including elected officials, institutional partners, key players in the green energy transition, and journalists, all eager to see the unit in action. 

The inauguration ceremony began with speeches from Arkeale’s co-founders, followed by client’s testimonial, and speeches by institutional figures and partners who contributed to the project’s development. 

Throughout the discussions, a shared vision emerged: the energy solutions of tomorrow will be built at a local level, as closely as possible to local needs and available resources, and are fully aligned with a circular approach. 

Following the official acknowledgements, the ceremony moved on to the traditional ribbon-cutting, guided tours of the live unit, and concluded with a networking session among attendees.

A solution designed for small-scale structures 

This first BioCapsule® was installed for Eric and Caroline Mercier, organic market gardeners who were searching for a solution to simultaneously reduce their carbon footprint and boost their energy independence. 

Arkeale’s BioCapsule® stood out as the only anaerobic digestion solution scaled to their specific volume of food waste, capable of being installed directly on-site to power their facilities. 

With a compact footprint of just 6 × 6 metres, the BioCapsule® processes 400 tons of bio-waste annually from the farm, as well as spent grain from a brewery located just 4 km away. 

Thanks to these inputs, the unit generates: 

     • 100 MWh of electricity, used to power cold storage rooms. 

     • 100 MWh of heat, dedicated to heating the farm shop, offices, and mushroom farm. 

     • 350 tons of liquid and solid digestate, reused on-site as organic fertilizer. 

Today, the farm has achieved nearly 40% energy autonomy thanks to the BioCapsule®, whilst fully recycling its organic waste within a closed-loop system. 

The start of a large-scale roll-out 

This first launch is just the beginning. Arkeale plans to produce three new BioCapsules® in 2026. Our second anaerobic digestion station will soon be installed within the Strasbourg city, while advanced feasibility studies are currently underway for a local authority in Luxembourg and an agri-food manufacturer. 

By 2028, Arkeale aims to produce ten units per year and build a new manufacturing site. To fuel this growth, the company is planning a €3 million fundraising round later in 2026.
